Aerospace Engines

Hello, this is Dong-A Special Metals. As global demand for recycling and alloy raw materials continues to rise, the need for sustainable and eco-friendly solutions has never been greater. This article is the second installment on the importance of recycling for super alloys.

Eco-Friendly Recycling for ESG Management

At Dong-A Special Metals, we have implemented an environmentally friendly operating process to align with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management principles. Our focus is on maximizing the utilization of by-products and waste from steel production, securing sustainable alternative raw materials, and expanding the use of scrap to contribute to carbon reduction under the 3R principles: Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse.

The Global Shift Towards Resource Protection

Developed countries are already implementing strict regulations to restrict the export of valuable resources, particularly scrap materials, to protect their domestic industries. Korea, like other industrialized nations, will need to adopt similar policies to safeguard its resources and ensure long-term sustainability.

For resource-limited nations such as Korea, it is essential to establish a circular economy that efficiently recycles existing materials. Unlike advanced economies, Korea has limited domestic production of superalloys due to the complexities of alloying technology. Even if resources are imported to manufacture superalloys, production will face significant challenges due to carbon emission constraints.

Achieving Self-Reliance Through Rare Metal Recycling

If our project to develop recycling technology for rare metal scrap succeeds, Korea will take a major step towards self-sufficiency in titanium materials, an industry currently reliant on imports. Establishing a closed-loop resource system for titanium will not only benefit the domestic market but also reduce dependency on foreign suppliers.

Titanium plays a critical role in various industries, including:

  • Aerospace and aviation

  • Space exploration

  • Defense and military applications

  • Automotive and shipbuilding sectors

  • Marine and nuclear energy industries

  • Chemical and power generation industries

With the continued advancement of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the demand for titanium and other superalloys is expected to rise. Therefore, recycling these materials is not just an economic advantage but a necessity for long-term sustainability.

Government Support and Policy for Rare Metal Recycling

Recycling superalloys is now recognized as a national priority in Korea. The Korean government has announced industrial policies to promote rare metal recycling and stockpile strategic metal resources. Strengthening regulations and increasing awareness of resource circulation will be crucial for the industry’s growth.

Our Commitment to ESG and Technological Innovation

We collaborate with companies dedicated to ESG management and are actively contributing to sustainable industry practices. Our commitment extends to research and development (R&D) efforts to enhance our recycling technologies.

Notably, our innovative recycling technology for producing high-purity titanium has been evaluated and verified by Korea Evaluation Data, confirming its competitiveness in the market.

Expanding Global Partnerships

We are currently supplying recycled materials to leading international steelmakers and alloy manufacturers. As interest in sustainable materials grows, we have received numerous inquiries from steel mills and alloy producers seeking high-quality recycled materials.

If you are interested in collaborating with us or have any inquiries regarding our recycled alloy materials, please feel free to reach out using the contact information below. We look forward to working with partners committed to sustainable growth.
