This purchase was an ironic import of titanium scrap. As explained in the previous article, Korea exports most of its titanium-based scrap overseas. This is a clear drain on our national wealth and our government is aware of this, but until recently, there was no significant alternative.

This is because scrap is a fairly closed market and the amount of scrap produced is not clear, so it is difficult to calculate accurately. Of course, due to the cost reduction of manufacturers, some years ago, raw materials are supplied after deducting the amount of scrap weight generated during processing. This is done in some large companies, but it is not easy to do in small and medium-sized companies.

However, it's time for mid-sized and larger companies to be ready for ESG, and to keep the scrap they generate for themselves, rather than exporting it to other countries. Developed countries are already strongly sanctioning the export of resources, especially scrap resources, to protect their assets. Korea will have to follow the lead of other developed countries and strongly regulate resource exports.

Just as the Yoon administration revived nuclear power generation and gained recognition in the global market, we believe that Korean politicians need to regulate resource wealth outflows through legislation. We pray that the national government will stop the scrap wealth outflow, as any further outflow can cause more damage to us.
