Titanium Grade 7 is a commercially pure titanium alloy enhanced with a small addition of palladium (Pd: 0.12–0.25%), offering superior corrosion resistance even in highly aggressive environments. While its mechanical properties are similar to Grade 2, the added palladium significantly boosts its durability in both oxidizing and reducing media.
Exceptional Corrosion Resistance in Harsh Conditions
Titanium Grade 7 is known as the most corrosion-resistant titanium alloy among the commercially pure grades. The presence of palladium alters surface electrochemistry, inhibiting corrosive reactions—especially in chlorinated and acidic environments. This makes it ideal for processes involving hydrochloric acid (HCl), sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄), acetic acid (CH₃COOH), and other aggressive chemicals.
Its resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking provides long-term performance, even under immersion in highly corrosive solutions.
Excellent Weldability and Hydrogen Embrittlement Resistance
Grade 7 maintains its corrosion resistance even in heat-affected zones (HAZ) during welding. Compatible with methods such as TIG, plasma arc, and electron beam welding, it is highly weldable and retains structural stability across joints.
Additionally, the alloy exhibits high resistance to hydrogen embrittlement, which typically poses a challenge in hydrogen-handling environments. This feature ensures safety and long-term use in hydrogen infrastructure and chemical storage systems.
Key Applications in Chemical and Energy Industries
Due to its high resistance to acids and chlorides, Titanium Grade 7 is widely used in:

- Heat exchangers
- Storage tanks
- Chlorine chemical processing
- Hydrogen-handling equipment
Its low maintenance and long service life offer cost benefits in chemical plants, refineries, and wastewater treatment facilities.
High-Value Recycling and Circular Economy
Titanium Grade 7 scrap is classified as a high-value titanium scrap due to its palladium content. During recycling, XRF or spectrometry is used to confirm precise Pd levels, ensuring accurate grade separation from CP titanium.
This recycling process supports carbon neutrality by reducing the energy footprint of primary production. Remelted Grade 7 ingots maintain high purity, enabling sustainable use in next-generation green chemistry and clean energy applications. Palladium recovery also contributes to the strategic reuse of rare and expensive metals.
