Exceptional Corrosion Resistance in Reducing Environments

Ni-Mo 80 is a specialty alloy composed of approximately 80% nickel (Ni) and 20% molybdenum (Mo). This high molybdenum content delivers superior corrosion resistance in reducing environments, far exceeding that of typical nickel-based alloys.

Due to its unique properties, Ni-Mo 80 is used in chemical plants, high-temperature systems, and high-pressure equipment. Molybdenum enhances both oxidation and reduction resistance, strengthening the alloy’s overall durability and chemical stability.


Industrial Applications and Advantages Over Common Nickel Alloys

Ni-Mo 80 is widely used in:

- Chemical processing plants

- Petrochemical and gas refining systems

- Catalytic reactors

- Acid recovery units

- Environmental protection equipment

It significantly outperforms common stainless steels and duplex alloys, especially in systems that involve hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. Compared to conventional nickel alloys like Hastelloy C-276 or Inconel 625, Ni-Mo 80’s much higher molybdenum content gives it a clear edge in reducing environments.

However, Ni-Mo 80 contains almost no chromium (Cr), which lowers its stability in oxidizing conditions. In such cases, it is used alongside chromium-containing alloys or in composite designs to enhance stability.

Its outstanding resistance to chlorinated compounds and excellent surface film stability make it ideal for LNG (liquefied natural gas) vessels. Applications include:

- LNG low-temperature piping

- Steam distribution lines

- Gas control valves

- Internal LNG transfer valves

These features meet strict corrosion-safety standards in energy transportation and storage.
