Today, we’d like to introduce the properties and applications of Titanium CP solid material. CP (Commercially Pure) titanium differs from titanium alloys in key aspects such as composition, strength, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility.
CP Titanium vs. Alloy Titanium
CP titanium is over 99% pure titanium with very small amounts of alloying elements. In contrast, titanium alloys like Ti-6Al-4V (Gr.5) or Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Gr.23) are designed for enhanced strength and specific performance needs. These alloys contain aluminum and vanadium to increase strength, but at the cost of reduced corrosion resistance.
Properties of CP Titanium
CP titanium is categorized into ASTM Grades 1 through 4:
- Gr.1: Highest ductility, lowest strength
- Gr.2: Best balance of strength and formability (most used industrial grade)
- Gr.3 & Gr.4: Higher strength, slightly lower ductility
The main advantages of CP titanium include:
- Outstanding corrosion resistance to seawater, chlorine, acids, and oxidizers
- Excellent biocompatibility, making it ideal for medical implants, dental materials, and artificial bones
- A stable oxide film (TiO₂) that enhances corrosion resistance naturally
Machinability and Thermal Stability
Despite its lower mechanical strength compared to alloys, CP titanium is easy to machine, shape, and weld. It maintains mechanical performance at temperatures up to 500°C, making it suitable for high-temperature industrial environments.

CP titanium solids are widely used in:
- Chemical plants and pharmaceutical equipment
- Marine structures and offshore platforms
- Medical industries for implants and surgical tools
- Aerospace and food-processing industries
Its low density and high functionality make it ideal for lightweight structures and eco-friendly solutions.
